Camino 1.0 Alpha 1 Released

Camino 1.0 alpha 1 has been released. Following on Camino 0.9 alpha 2 (there was no final 0.9 release), this latest version of the native Mac OS X browser features faster performance, better advertisement blocking and enhanced preferences. Bookmarks, printing and the download manager have also been improved, and the security certificates functionality now has a better user interface with more options. The Java Embedding Plugin is included, allowing Camino to take advantage of the latest 1.4 and 5.0 versions of Java if installed. In addition, Camino 1.0 alpha 1 also has dozens of minor enhancements. See the Camino 1.0 Alpha 1 Release Notes for more details.

The CaminoBrowser.org site has a news item about the release of Camino 1.0 alpha 1, while lead developer Mike Pinkerton explains that Camino 1.0 alpha 1 uses the same version of Gecko as Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta 1 but with an extra security fix. Finally, Jasper Hauser says that he will be improving the Camino website and icons in time for the final 1.0 release.
