Texas evacuations ordered as Rita enters Gulf

As Hurricane Rita entered the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday -- and with predictions that it will reach Category 4 status Wednesday -- the mayor of Galveston, Texas, declared a state of emergency and ordered some mandatory evacuations. Galveston is at the center of Rita's predicted possible landfalls, and one forecast track has the city suffering a direct hit. Rita pounded southern Florida and the Keys with wind and rain Tuesday but did not make official landfall.
