eWeek's First Look at Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta 1

eWeek has a first-look review of Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Beta 1, which it describes as "pretty darn good". After discussing the reasons why so many 1.0.x extensions are incompatible with 1.5 Beta 1, author Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols goes on to examine some of the new functionality, including faster Back and Forward navigation, drag-and-drop tab reordering, improved popup blocking and the Clear Private Data feature. The redesigned Options/Preferences window, new software update system and enhanced Web standards support are also mentioned.

"Taken as a whole, this Firefox 1.5 beta makes it clear that it will both make its current users happy and help bring new users to it," Vaughan-Nichols concludes. "However, don't make the mistake so many people I've heard from today have of believing that Firefox 1.5 is ready for work. It's not," he warns. "As a beta, without any technical support, without support for 1.0x extensions, it should not be used as a replacement for Firefox 1.0x or any other browser. Come December and its final release, it will be a different story." Thanks to roseman for the link.
