Texas evacuations ordered as Rita enters Gulf

As Hurricane Rita entered the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday and with predictions that it will reach Category 4 status Wednesday, the Mayor of Galveston, Texas, declared a state of emergency and ordered some mandatory evacuations. Galveston is at the center of Rita's predicted possible landfalls and one forecast track has the city suffering a direct hit. Rita pounded southern Florida and the Keys with wind and rain Tuesday but did not make official landfall.
